for us they built this cubby house
this little slice of paradise
though we really didn't stay there for very long
relax on the long green couch
watch a movie
and snack on doritos
as we listen to
the crack out back of all the
frying mosquitoes
evacuate this cubby house
relocate the one they call the spouse
it's for the best
our love for you isn't any less
let's celebrate our childhood
laugh at the people
who never understood what it's like
to be impaled
on our dark-green fence
for us they'd given everything
left behind their wedding rings
now our frame

their hatred would always get in the way

breathing life into this paradise
butterflies with wings the size of sails
graceful in the after-morning light
tulips dance with dear appreciation
out of mind and sometimes out of sight
roses teach the most important lesson
that delicate beauty can still do you harm so
as the critters hide away
in divots in the lawn
a tender voice then beckons me with light-hearted scorn
just enough to make me laugh but cry while im asleep
from what i know i'd hoped we had though just could never be
wishing is a dreamer's gift
from the guile of Mendacious made in jest to sadden us but draw upon our face a grin no pessimist has seen
curious suspicious little mind
grab a chair and place it next to mine
i'll show you child how to put a halt on time
the natural world reflected through my eyes
